Edward Lawrence Doheny gave the 12.58 acres of land to his son Edward "Ned" in 1926. Construction started in 1926 and in 1928 Ned and his family moved into the mansion. It was the largest family estate in the history of Beverly Hills. Only four months later Ned and his secretary was found dead in the mansion, in what was described as a murder-suicide. The estate and park is now a registered historical landmark. Many featured movies has been filmed here.

It's much better now though...
A park with an artificial lake that used to be a water reservoir prior to 1942, when it was known as Westlake Park
McArthur park has been renowned as a dangerous park and was for a long time infested with drug addicts. The park is much better now and has a soccer field, free workout machines and two big playgrounds for kids. It's mostly a family park now that closes at 10PM. At night there are still homeless people living there.

Grifith Park Observatory




The Observatory is located on the shouthern slope of Mount Hollywood 1,134 feet above sea level and is one of Southern Californias most popular attractions. It is open all week till 10:00pm. and offers various public programs. Once a month you can attend the Public Star Parties where the whole family gets a chance to look at the sun, moon, visible planets and other objects. Griffith Observatory is featured in the classic film Rebel Without A Cause starring James Dean and Nathalie Wood. A bronze bust of James Dean is on the grounds just outside the Observatory building.

Located on Crystal Spings Drive by the Loz Feliz entrance to the park. This is a great place where kids can have fun and practice safe horseback riding around an oval track.
There is also a miniature train ride next to the horse track.

Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round

Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round has been a family attraction for many generations, and is located in the Park Center between the La Zoo and the Loz Feliz park. It has 68 horses which are carved with jewel-encrusted bridles and decorated with sunflowers and lion heads.
